• As Practitioners, are we on the front foot, developing insight, understanding and connecting our ideas with others?
  • Do we tell stories that suit our agenda or work to develop a more meaningful and shared narrative?
  • Do we listen to, and give preference to those that are like minded and forget and dismiss the contribution and offering of others if they challenge or their message doesn’t fit with our own world view?
  • When we see issues between practitioners or within the team , do we intervene and proactively flag the problems or do we allow them to fester?
  • Do we have a full and rounded picture before acting? Do we give ourselves enough time to understand context and where our colleagues are coming from?
  • How much confidence can any of us have in our understanding? Should we continue evaluate this?
  • Do we rely on ‘fly overs’ (click here) for information and context rather than ‘deep diving’?

If we hope to understand our colleagues, their work and contribution to actively support our own, perhaps we need to proactively go ‘under the bonnet’ more frequently and actively listen. This requires (1) an open mind (2) the gift of time (3) an appetite to understand, (4) the ability to park your own agenda and (5) a desire to work with others around common purpose.
